Cakes

I have done a couple of cake in the past few months, first was a wedding cake for our friends. It was my first wedding cake, it was covered in buttercream and had fondant polka dots.

I only got pictures before it was assembled so there they are (please pardon my freezer and fridge):

It was four tiers, and we had two extra ones for serving. They had it cut up and served to everyone at the reception.

Next I made a birthday cake for my nephew who turned 5. My sister let me borrow her caterpillar cupcake pan. I think it turned out pretty cute.

Next I made a baby shower cake for a friends sister, she wanted a small cake and cupcakes. the colors were blue, brown, and cream.

The last cake I for my niece who just turned 3. She loves princesses so she asked for a princess castle cake, so that is what we did.

She loved it, she kept standing on her chair during dinner to look at it.

So that is what I have been up to the past few months, this week I will be baking Christmas goodies. I will try to put up some of my favorites with their recipes.

Chocolate Pear Galette

A galette is kind of like a pie but it is just not baked in a pie pan. The ingredients are put in the center of the rolled out crust and the edges are folded over and then it is baked on a cookie sheet. It was delicious!

Rachel's Sweet 16 Cake

Okay, here it is finally! The bottom tier is chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream filling and the top tier is a white cake with chocolate buttercream filling. It is frosted in the white chocolate italian buttercream from the cupcake post. I made all the decorations from the Wilton Candy melts. I think it turned out really cute! So without further adieu here it is:

Up and coming post!

I am making a birthday cake for my sister-in-law Rachel and her friend, for their combined birthday party on Saturday and I am doing something a little bit different. I got this book:

for Christmas from a gift card my sister gave me. It is very very fun! The authors use butter cream to decorate but they also use these little guys:

They are candy melts, mostly used to make little candies but they uses them to decorate! It is fantastic! Basically they melt it down and draw with it. This is my first cake using this technique, I started doing the decorations yesterday and I think it is going to be pretty cool! So come back Saturday for the finished project!

Cupcakes!

I made these cupcakes to try out a new frosting, it is an Italian meringue buttercream flavored with white chocolate. This frosting is much smoother and lighter than an American buttercream (powdered sugar, butter, and milk).

To decorate them I used a large closed star tip and a large rose tip.

So here they are:

Last Cake Class Cake

This is my favorite cake I have done so far it was my final cake for my last class.

It is covered in fondant, I made the flower out of a fondant and gumpaste mixture.

I think it turned out very well. The cake was a yellow cake and the bottom layer was filled with buttercream and homemade strawberry jam, the top layer was filled with Nutella.

Practice Cakes

I just finished all of the Wilton Cake Decorating classes and these are some of the cakes that I made for the class and in between the classes for family birthday's and such.

This is the first decorated cake I did, it is just chocolate buttercream with buttercream roses.

This is a cake I did for my friends birthday, it is decorated with buttercream as well.

This is a buttercream cake with royal icing flowers.

I did this cake for my little sister's graduation it is also just decorated in buttercream.

I did this cake for Father's Day, it was my first fondant covered cake. Fondant is frosting the can be rolled out like play dough.
